3 Simple Steps for Entrepreneurial Success

3 Simple Steps for Entrepreneurial Success

3 Simple Steps for Entrepreneurial Success
By Dawn Goldberg Shuler

One characteristic that seems to be universal for entrepreneurs is that we have ideas. Not just one here or there, but a TON. Ideas every day. Multiple ideas in a day.

You probably understand that you can't act upon and bring to fruition every single idea. You have to be selective. Some ideas will work; others won't.

So, then you are stuck in a dilemma: do you take action or not? Not all ideas are worthy of taking to their end game, but how do you figure out which ones are worthy? And so you might stay stuck, and you may not follow many ideas at all.

Your success as an entrepreneur depends upon your continual growth, evolution, and forward movement. And your ideas are how that growth, evolution, and movement manifest.

Here's my simple Success Plan for Entrepreneurs:

  1. Have an idea
  2. Act upon said idea
  3. Follow through and complete idea

Honestly, the place where I see most entrepreneurs falter is #3 - the follow through and complete. Now, sometimes you might realize, as you play with an idea, that it's not really sound, or it's not the right time. That scenario is not what causes entrepreneurs to fail.

What I mean is the idea that goes so far and then... nothing. In this case, it's not because you've figured out that it's not worthy. It's that you're onto the next idea. Or the completion and follow-through stage isn't nearly as fun as the idea generating and playful stage. Or you get stuck because you haven't figured out the next steps.

And that's where entrepreneurs fall down. They don't complete.

So, let's look at those 3 steps again.

  1. Have an idea
  2. Act upon said idea
  3. Follow through and complete idea

What could the potential be for some of the ideas you have knocking around in your head? What if you took one of your great ideas, and followed it through, from baby stage, to toddlerhood, to teenage years, to final all-growed-up?

Here's what I'm challenging you to do...

  1. Write down your current 5 top, most amazing, sexy, jazzy, juicy ideas.
  2. For each idea, describe what it would look like if that idea was birthed into the world in full form. Use as many concrete, tangible details as you can.
  3. For each idea, plan all the steps you would need to take (that you can think of - no stressing allowed!) in order to bring that idea to fruition.
  4. Look over your list. Now, what idea(s) sound the most promising, the most profitable, and the most fun?
  5. Pick one, and start scheduling the to-do's from step #3 into your schedule.

A few notes as you go through this process:

  • Not every idea should be acted upon. Sometimes an idea is just a pathway to a different idea.
  • SOME ideas should be acted upon.
  • If an idea doesn't go anywhere, it just stays an idea. What this means in English: at some point, you have to take action in order for it to become a reality.
  • This process takes time; there is no getting around that.

Play with these 3 steps and my challenge - I would love to hear what idea is burning for you to take action on!

How to Meet Your Clients' Needs And Grow Your Business

How To Meet Your Clients' Needs And Grow Your Business

How To Meet Your Clients' Needs And Grow Your Business
By Margie Beiswanger

As a successful business owner you want nothing more than to thrive by doing what you do best.

You want to be of service to your clients and to be valued for that. You want to see the fruits of your labor rewarded. You want to make a good living doing what you love.

Of course you do! I do, too.

But not everyone is experiencing that, for a variety of reasons. One of the issues I often see service-based entrepreneurs struggle with is their ability to succeed in two different ways, simultaneously. In order to truly thrive as a service-provider and business owner you absolutely must be able to meet (and ideally exceed) your clients' needs and grow your business at the same time.

What do I mean by that? Am I implying that's a source of conflict and cause of stress for many entrepreneurs? Why yes, yes I am.

Let me explain.

You are amazing at what you do. I know you are. You know you are. Your clients are the proof. They rave about you and all that you provide. They want you all to themselves. You are definitely nailing the first part of the equation - meeting your clients' needs - so that's great. But what often happens is you keep on delivering and delivering and delivering. The clients take up all your time. All of your energy. And there's no time / energy / available resources left to grow your business.

How will you grow your business beyond where it is today if you only excel at the first part of the equation? The short answer is you won't. Then what happens? You may already be experiencing this result for yourself: What happens next is you burn out. You have no life outside of your business and your dreams come crashing down. You're exhausted and wonder what you ever saw in the entrepreneurial lifestyle.

Then there is the second part of the equation - working hard to grow your business. Now I know, devoted reader, that you would never fall into this category I'm about to illuminate. But believe me, others do. They set their sights on building their business into its next phase, into that bigger vision. That's great! I'm all for having a big vision and focusing your energy to make it a reality. But not at the expense of your clients and their needs. Not if it means that you are no longer providing an outstanding service experience.

I'll give you one guess as to what happens to those businesses that focus on their future growth at the expense of their current clients' needs and experiences. You know the answer. They won't last. They'll lose clients and lose their foothold in the future vision they created. Next thing you know, there's no more business at all. Again, the entrepreneurial dream has come crashing down.

So what's a service-oriented entrepreneur to do?

Start Here: Bridge the Gap

Start by making sure that you really truly have identified the pressing problems of your most ideal clients so that you can meet - and exceed - their needs. Do you have a way to get underneath what they're telling you they want help with? How can you dig a bit deeper so that you can provide outstanding results? Be the one who can uncover the deeper need, the bigger sticking points, and present a solution to those. By bridging the gap between what they say they want and what they really need, you provide a better solution. That better solution is what gets them the dynamite results they're after. And when that happens, they rave about you. Now you're cooking!

Next Up: Ensure a Smooth Delivery

Now you're confident that you can indeed meet your clients' most pressing needs, you want to free up some energy to devote to growing your business. How? By ensuring that you have strong business systems in place to make client care an easy-peasy proposition. Deliver unparalleled value to your clients and do it with ease on your part. Ahhhh. Can you see how that combination allows you the time and energy to focus on future growth?

Have your technology lined up, have your intake process streamlined, make sure it's a breeze to keep track of your finances, client follow-up, etc. Provide excellent client care by having systems in place that allow you to do that with ease and joy. Yes, I said joy! You won't have to worry about what's falling through the cracks if you have a strong business foundation and the systems in place to support that foundation.

Now you're ready to focus on growth, positive growth. You'll be ready to grow while meeting your clients' needs. When you do it this way, no one gets left behind. Not you. Not your amazing clients. Not your entrepreneurial dream.

Final Piece: Deepen and Develop

If you're going to grow your business to the next phase, to the next level of success, to that big vision stage, then you're going to have to ramp things up. You know this, I know.

What you may not know is that to ramp things up in a way that is sustainable you need to go deep. Deepen your offerings. Go farther into what is needed 'next' for your most ideal clients. Then develop offers and programs that will take them there. Grow with your clients and their needs and you'll be growing your business. Take them to the next level and your business will follow.

If you want to grow your business beyond where it is now, beyond what you've achieved so far, then you need to deepen and develop, too. Your personal and professional growth must be continuous. In fact, I would argue that's an essential piece of entrepreneurial success. If you want to grow your business, the ability to grow both personally and professionally is essential.

Don't stop short. Don't be satisfied with the status quo. Deepen your skill set, expand your offerings as a service provider, and develop more comprehensive solutions for your ideal clients.

Master this and you'll be well on your way to sustainable business success because you'll be able to grow your business and meet your ideal clients' needs, simultaneously. Your clients receive an amazing experience that's easy for you to deliver. Their needs are met or even exceeded by the services you provide. And all of it is done with ease and joy, which creates time and energy for you to be future focused. That's when your business growth accelerates beyond where you are now.

When you can simultaneously meet your clients' needs and grow your business to the next level of success... everyone wins!

I am passionate about showing you how your brilliance can shine even brighter!

I teach entrepreneurs how to translate their unique expertise into signature programs so they can reach more of their ideal clients, leverage their time, expand their business, and earn a good living. Let me show you how. Visit http://TransformYourBrilliance.com to learn more.

I GVO The Ultimate Marketers Toolbox?

1) Product focused...

When marketing on the internet, sometimes you feel like your head is going to explode! The amount of tools, systems, and services out there will make your head spin which make promises of easy riches when you use them.
Every day, there seems to be another "magic tool" that pops up promising millions of visitors to your site and large sums of money in your bank account....effortlessly.
It can get overwhelming and take focus away from what you should be doing to build your business.
As you know, there are tools out there that not only make your life easier, but keep your business running on auto-pilot for you.
The trick is to know which ones to focus on and which ones to stay away from!
Let's go through the essentials which every top internet marketer depends on a daily basis to run their million dollar businesses...
1) Web Hosting
Obviously, without hosting, the internet would be a pretty boring place to hang out. If you have a domain name, you need a place to host it so others can find you.
Hosting companies out there range from free all the way to over $500 a month for dedicated hosting.
The key is to find a company that provides 99% uptime and also provides 24/7 support in case you ever have a problem.
And of course, just like anything, you get what you pay for.
2) Auto-Responders
Have you heard the phrase, "The Money Is In The List?"
Well, having an autoresponder and building a list that knows, likes, and trusts you is the fastest way to literally pushing a button and having money coming in your bank account... faster than you can say... Hot Biscuits!
The formula is simple.
Create a page that gives something of huge value totally away for free. This could be a free report, a video lesson, an audio interview, or a live webinar.
Then, in exchange for your free information, the visitor will give you their name and email address.
And then the magic happens. You can follow up with them automatically and offer more value and even get them to buy something!
This is all done using an auto-repsonder, all automatically and efficiently for you.
Again, companies providing auto-responders range from $20 a month up to $99 a month.
3) Video Hosting
The internet is all about video. And without some type of video on your website, most people will simply not hang around.
Video allows you to bond with your visitor and create more trust than with just words on your site.
We've all heard of YouTube for sure. But is a free service that is known for pranks, jokes, and music videos the right image for your business?
There's a reason the top marketers host their videos through paid services and you should to.
4) Website Builder and Prospecting System
99% of internet marketers don't have the time and/or the skills to create their own websites or prospecting pages. Trying to learn website design and html code is not the best way to spend your time.
That's where website builders come in. You simply customize your pages with your own video, product info, auto-responder, and you're done!
5) Live Webcasts
The most powerful way to sell is face to face. You get instant feedback and customers can ask questions and get their answers immediately.
Since we don't want to meet all our visitors in person... Webcasts are the next best thing.
We can sit in the comfort of our own homes and present to people all over the world. Product demonstrations, video overviews, live questions and answers, it's all possible with Webcasts.
If you're not using Webcasts in your business, you are missing out on thousands of dollars of sales.
Typical companies charge between $49 to $99 a month and more.
The Top 5 Essential Tools
These are the top five tools that every top marketer uses and depends on a daily basis to make sales on auto-pilot.
And you can too.
Now, you can get all these great tools from different companies and pay between $150 to over $350 each and every month.
Or, you can make the smart decision and get them all from one company and save a huge amount of money.
GVO offers all these tools under one roof and for only $1.45 a day. That's less than a Starbucks coffee!
And the best part is, for a limited time, you can take advantage of all these amazing tools and profit with them for a full 14 days for only a $1.
Don't decide now, use all the tools and see how powerful they are and how they will help explode your business online right now.

Small Business Entrepreneur-Small Beginnings

Small Business Entrepreneur - Small Beginnings

Small Business Entrepreneur - Small Beginnings
By Marlene Dewitte

Becoming a small business entrepreneur is surely one of many peoples dreams. Owning your own business, wow! Each of us wants to be in control of our own destiny. We want to enjoy working at something that we love doing.

If you have to work 8 hours or more a day, in your own small business you will not mind putting in the extra hours, making the sacrifices it takes and the hard work to achieve your dreams. Most of us need to work every day in today's economic climate. Unless you have unlimited wealth, you need to work for a living.

Here is a good reason for becoming an entrepreneur.

Being able to go into your bosses' office with your letter of resignation typed up, letting him read it and seeing the look on his face when you give your reason for resigning: "I've started my own company. First part-time and now full time and as I am bringing in more money per month than you could pay me in 6 months I cannot afford to work for you any longer". The look on his/her face should be priceless.

Now, take a look at the benefits of owning your own business:

You can schedule your time to suit yourself - you are your own boss. There's no alarm clock, no rushing out the door without breakfast and no traffic jams to get through.

Your office is at home. Throw the alarm clock away, less wear and tear on your car. Have breakfast when you are hungry, not because you have to eat before you leave home...

No stuffed shirt boss, who pointedly looks at his watch if you are 5 minutes late and makes you make up the time by keeping you after work for an extra hour just to show you who is the boss around here.

As a small business entrepreneur you can and will be only responsible to yourself and your clients. No more wondering if you will have a job next week, or next month. You typically don't fire yourself unless you do a really bad job of running your own business. Then you must get some help. So do you homework first!

No "dead end future" in a dead end job. You know you have the will, stamina, knowledge and have been building your business for at least 6 months before resigning. You now have a goal and know what you want to achieve.

No more going without a pay raise or bonus because you need to keep your job so desperately that you have conditioned yourself into thinking: "At least, I have a job".

As your business grows and you become more successful, pay yourself what you think you are worth and give yourself a bonus. No more begging for time off work or taking a sick day because your little toddler got sick but your supervisor doesn't care.

You can plan your own hours and fit your other commitments into your schedule. You are the business owner, you're the boss this time.

Being a small business entrepreneur? Seems like a lot of rewarding benefits to me. You just need to remember that in order to achieve the success you want you have to be prepared to take the steps and the hours it takes to be successful.

Small Business Entrepreneur-Making a Fortune With Small Businesses Fast

Small Business Entrepreneur - Making A Fortune With Small Businesses Fast

Small Business Entrepreneur - Making A Fortune With Small Businesses Fast
By Martin Thomas

If you are going to become a small business entrepreneur, you are on your way to rapid wealth. Congratulations on your decision. There is a ton of excess intrinsic value to be found in small businesses and people can be negotiated with very effectively.

Not unlike the main character in "Pretty Woman" Richard Gere (And Julia Roberts) He is portrayed as a heartless take over pirate, stripping a businesses assets for fast millions. Yes, John was a small business entrepreneur. On the scale you may be currently operating, the similarity pales a little. But earning over $1 million within a year is nothing to be turned down.

An associate of mine is an opportunity investor as I am and his specialization is small businesses and in his first year he stripped and sold over $10 million in assets. The reason why Adrian does so well for himself is because an armed entrepreneur (with information) easily dominates the players in the transaction-the business broker and the small business vendor.

This is hard core. Its of course legal and ethical but it is certainly not a path for everyone. There certainly needs to be a little bit of indifference to feelings and a strong bias against emotional plea's present. People who are drawn to being a small business entrepreneur are generally "alpha type personalities" They love a challenge and love the thrust and parry of the typical small business transaction.

Adrian typically begins his proposed take over and strip by becoming a customer or client of the target business. Incognito so to speak. He assesses and makes the decision of whether the business has any immediate problems that can be easily and rapidly fixed so cash flow instantly rises (Believe me, this is a very common occurrence) In this case he would spend more time on it and build up the cash flow for a very fat ripe final re-sale price.

On the other hand if the business has too many complicated problems that cannot be resolved with simple measures, then he targets the businesses assets and sells of for an average 100% profit on his initial purchase. He is a tough negotiator and knows how to make the seller motivated to off load.

Becoming a small business entrepreneur is a smart move if you are the right person and know you can enjoy the thrill of making fast money buying and selling small businesses. But as noted, its not for everyone. Its hard core.

The Small Business Entrepreneur Is Ahead Of The Trends

The Small Business Entrepreneur Is Ahead Of The Trends

The Small Business Entrepreneur Is Ahead Of The Trends
By Bob G Johnson

The battle between the mass merchandisers and the small Mom/Pop retailer is a race to identify and fill trends before they become big in a specific industry. Here's the difference between how a small business entrepreneur picks and chooses what is or will become popular and how a mass merchandiser does it.

The small entrepreneur does not have the capital, in money or labor, to follow what is hot in retail, gardening or home decor. Once items become most desirable then the mass merchandiser has started buying the items by the container load and it's often from overseas, outside the U.S. As items manufactured locally become popular it becomes a matter of commerce to go to China, Taiwan, or S.E. Asia and duplicate them. Often the reproduction will be in the millions of each and the price will drop for the knock offs. That process is created by the perceived demand of the general public's wants going forward.

The process of "anticipation" is predicated upon looking at small niches and extrapolating the small niches to the masses. If the item has merit for mass appeal then the mass merchandiser bets with future purchases and orders the items in larger quantities. Prices drop but the mass merchandiser is always the dog chasing the tail.

The small business entrepreneur is in a different boat. The small merchandiser is often a one or two person buying group who own the business. Approximately 3-6 months prior to receiving the merchandise they go to merchandise shows in Atlanta, Las Vegas, NYC, Philadelphia or in local communities to see what is new and novel. It is now the orders are placed for future delivery. Most small business people are buying Christmas items in the summer, Fall merchandise in the winter, etc. Due to limited capital the small business owner will "guess" on popularity of merchandise and place small orders for their shops. A typical order may be $100 - $1,000 for merchandise the entrepreneur thinks will sell and be what the customer wants once it is displayed.

If the item is popular and sells immediately there is usually a delay before the items can be replaced. Some of the items chosen do not sell and on those the entrepreneur now has what is referred to as "dead inventory". That is cash spent with no return as well as lost opportunity to buy what is hot due to lack of cash invested in bad inventory.

It's just a fact of life for the small entrepreneur, but it's the lifeblood of retail. The small business owner supports the manufacturing of small lot, local manufacturers and stokes the economic flames of local business and economic growth. The small manufacturer often can not fill orders in the millions of dollars unless there is heavy investment in retooling and availability of capital at reasonable terms. Especially in the U.S. where the labor costs are high the popular items go offshore to less costly land, labor and legal liability areas.

A case in point.

In the early 2000's one of the hottest items to emerge in home decor and retail were the live bamboo shoots that were placed in clear glass vases. Initially the item itself lacked much appeal other than in landscaping, indoor plant areas as a fill in. After several popular mass appeal home decorating magazines featured the bamboo plants in their publications it became a home decorating trend to include the plants in home decor design. The small business had ventured into the items for a trial product, or had seen the items in the magazines and anticipated the demand. The small business owner started meeting the demand with the limited inventory available for their customers. After the bamboo became hot then the growing of those bamboo shoots shifted from the local nursery supplier to the mass producers and harvesters overseas. Rather than fill an order for 50 plants, which the local nursery could do for multiple vendors, it became fill 2 orders for 2,000,000 each of bamboo shoots.

The small business owner recognized and set the trend, but the local grower and small business owners lose out when the items become popular. They can no longer buy or produce in the quantities needed and out of necessity have to move on to the next trend hoping to get it correct in their purchasing decisions.

As bad as the economics sound there are multiple reasons to support local business and local manufacturers. Here are a few of those reasons:

  • Local business recognizes local tastes & interest well in advance of mass merchandisers
  • Local business buys from local U.S. based businesses and increase employment
  • Local business encourages innovation and leading design
  • Local business add to the economic base as they are paying local property taxes, municipal and other taxes the foreign company is not.
  • Local business employs local families whether kids looking for a first job, part time employment to help families make ends meet, or employment close to home or school.

The backbone of American industry is built upon the guts of entrepreneurship that the U.S. citizens display constantly.

The Small Business Entrepreneur

The Small Business Entrepreneur

The Small Business Entrepreneur
By James R Stearns

The small business entrepreneur is taking on a new face and wearing many hats as the role of this business owner is changing. Most of the entrepreneurs today have learned to multi-task and actually rise above the challenges associated with a small business.

Nowadays these owners are expected to face the tasks of building, establishing, maintaining and looking ahead determining where the business should be in the years to come.

For this operation to be effective and remain on track there must be a business plan to follow. One of the many faces of these entrepreneurs is that of a market researcher.

This means, it is up to the business owner to find out if the market is changing, how competition will affect his enterprise as well as how he will be able to attract and sustain his clientele.

These entrepreneur are also faced with the task of keeping the books and having the ability to do the accounting or hire an accountant.

Most small business entrepreneur primarily are out to generate income, while the high impact entrepreneur is primarily interested in wealth creation.

These different economic objectives lead to enormous inherent differences in the kinds of business the two entrepreneur types start.

Their risk/reward profiles; how they finance their businesses; and how they recruit and compensate their teams are very different.

The small typically tackles a business opportunity with the potential to generate operating cash flow, while the high-impact entrepreneur is primarily focused on the near/mid-term exit value of the business.

Entrepreneurs are not just vital to our economy, they are the central foundation that supports it and upon which it is built.

The tough times that we are in have brought out the very best in the men and women in the green industry.
They have proven, once again, that they are tougher than any "tough" times thrown at them.

That is why small business entrepreneurs are not only the foundation of our economy; they are the backbone of who we are as a people. The morals, ethics, values and character of these entrepreneurs is what makes them and us great.

These entrepreneurs face day to day challenges which can not only cause unneeded stress, but it also has the potential to cripple the business from the inside.

It is necessary to have additional support to uphold the day to day operation so you, as a leader, can focus on creativity and innovation - the living, breathing aspects of your business that make it expand and grow.

Unfortunately, as their businesses grow, they realize the complexities and large amount of daily, tedious work and management involved.

Are you leading the business of your dreams? Make sure you do the research, and if the passion, commitment, will and desire is there and you are not afraid to leave your comfort zone I say go for it.

What is a Small Business Entrepreneur Business Angel ?

What Is a Small Business Entrepreneur Business Angel?

What Is a Small Business Entrepreneur Business Angel?
By J. Biznet

Lots of people visualize a small business entrepreneur as either a real go-getter or someone who is either a dreamer or has an unlimited bank balance.

So what really is a small business entrepreneur?

A true entrepreneur is someone who is a both a go-getter and also a dreamer. Entrepreneurs aren't limited to just business. A genuine entrepreneur is someone who possesses the ability to visualize.

They can visualize something that isn't yet available. They are usually both a dreamer and a go-getter to create something available that isn't available. They dream that something can be achieved or is achievable and go about making it so.

They start projects off and therefore are willing to invest their own money (hopefully!) in the project before seeking to use other people's money to go to the following stage of a project.

However, with big projects they need financing to make sure they area real possibility now we need to include the personal trait of salesmanship. They must be capable of making other people, namely investors, 'see' what they see.

The people who are more than likely to invest in these fledgling enterprises are usually business entrepreneurs and either come with an unlimited bank balance or have had excellent success in past projects.

These kind of investors are also commonly known as Business Angels.

Finding the right Business Angel to invest in your business enterprise isn't simple as there aren't that many readily available and anyone who takes a high risk in these forms of investments often seeks a high return on their invested capital.

Being a small business entrepreneur seeking financial resources for the project, you will need to realize and accept some terms and conditions from a business angel that you may possibly dislike initially. Being a small business operator, the percentage on the capital borrowed could be very high and you will need to be aware that many of them will demand a share of the project despite the loan may be repaid.

By percentage of the project, some business angels require as part of the initial investment, a continuing and permanent percentage of the corporation.

In Australia, the business structure in the small enterprise is usually as a company and having its own Australian Company Number (ACN) because the business structure is one that limits personal liability in the event of failure and because the structure is one that allows for business growth and control.

Business Angels are entrepreneurial business people first of all and bear little resemblance towards the perceived notion of kind and caring entities. They didn't make their fortunes because they are soft and gentle individuals.

They're called Business Angels because they're willing to invest where traditional money lenders fear to tread. They arrive on the development scene when a project requires extra funding and so they provide the necessary financial resources at a time it is needed.

That is not to convey they're bad people because they definitely are not. They're business entrepreneurs too who have designed a business structure that makes them money. As a small business entrepreneur you will appreciate their investment and expertise.

A small business entrepreneur often needs a business angel to provide the start-up capital when starting or expanding a business.

Learn From My Experience - First Year Tips For Small Business Entrepreneurs

Learn From My Experience - First Year Tips For Small Business Entrepreneurs

Learn From My Experience - First Year Tips For Small Business Entrepreneurs
By Keith M

The Number One first year tip - it's ALL about finding customers and keeping them happy

Whether you are at the feasibility, seed, or launch stage, you need customers!

If someone is showing interest but is not asking about prices, then you may have a new hobby, which is nice, but not a business.

Why? Ideas and plans are a dime a dozen. Cashflow is King. A potential customer is proof positive you may have found a genuine demand or gap in the market - but only when they start talking price.

A vision means squat without a plan for customers.

"A customer base equals capital"

Attracting investors will be much easier if they can see you are already generating a cashflow.

Also customers will attract people interested in working with you - and eventually you will need a team to go anywhere significant.

A customer means you are not dreaming!

Don't wait for qualifications

You could be forgiven for thinking that in the 2010's you need a string of qualifications and / or an MBA before making a move. It's not the case. Examples abound and if necessary you can hire to cover the gaps. Rather, try to emphasise product, ideas and team.

Which book learning are we skipping over here? What are some of the nice to have's you might defer?

In the initial stages of a business there are marketing skills - be content with seeing the original gap and creating a product to fit. Then finance skills - skip high finance and stick to the basic organisation of personal and business finance to cover risks, and finally time management skills where the essentials can be mastered quickly.

Later in the development phase we have operations - leadership, management, IT, property, culture/psychology, teamwork, loyalty, communications and regulations - the list goes on.

While it may seem heresy to some, the fact is there are many successes in business who started young with no management training.

Beware Franchising

Starting out under the protection of a franchise is a seductive option. Beware! While it may be a way to start-up with less risk, pay particular attention to:

 The franchise sale

Franchise operators are very good marketers - of their franchises. Be wary that you are not sucked in too much by the promises and pictures. Seriously, it's their job to sell you, just make sure they have a viable plan and you can sell their product.

 Your independence

The bottom line is that you have decided to become an entrepreneur, for reasons which quite likely include working for yourself, and by signing up with a franchise you have immediately given that independence away.

Will you be happy working for a head office? How much input to the business do you really have? Have you just bought yourself a job?

Take a real close look at your marketing plan

How are you going to find and reach customers? Your first job is to run like mad just to find them:

First, are you in an active sector and do you have a ready path to market? Where are you sourcing your leads - today?

Watch out for your own psychology. When starting out you may want to just go with the first half decent opportunity you come across. Relax; try to look at things objectively.

Beware of the "1% of the market is huge" syndrome. Yours may be a billion dollar market, but how do you get any of it? What do you think the competition is doing right now?

Any idea of the cost of acquisition of a new customer? Will your model develop repeat customers? If not you will be forever selling, and this is not a good place to be.

Most forms of marketing except word of mouth are very expensive. When starting out there is no doubt the best marketing model is word of mouth.

Branding. Despite the hype it's nothing new. Don't even think about mega-brand style exposure. A start-up is about a reputation, person to person sales and keeping a handful of customers happy.

What is the shelf life of your idea? How are you going to protect it in the internet age?

How smart is the business model?

A business model is the way we do things - how we find and reach customers, differentiate the business from the pack, price, sell and deliver our product.

But there is more. Other desirables include a residual structure, one that compounds growth, and which is leveraged either in time (employees) or money (loans).

Is it going to be a dynamic business or a job?

Realistically - are your finances strong enough for the first year or two?

Being an entrepreneur is a gamble and you must be prepared for the worst if it happens. How do you view losing money? Perhaps try investing on small bets in the stock market and see how it feels before investing in your own ideas.

Don't get into debt you cannot handle. We should be bold but not take risks. Avoid betting your lifestyle, limit the investment to what you can "afford to lose", then do everything to make sure that does not happen.

Entrepreneurs should always have backup plans. Not everything will work by any stretch of imagination.

How many hours are you working?

Have you really planned your diary? How will you fit everything in? Not all of us can survive on 4 hours sleep per night.

Remember the working rule - hard and smart.

And if you do work all hours, what is your effective hourly rate? Planning any time off?

Do you have a good business partner?

If you aspire to anything other than a micro business, you will have to think "team". The synergy gained outweighs potential downsides. While a committee of one gets things done, eventually you need others in your corner.

Are you ahead of trends?

No business can ignore trends. Try to have an eye on the picture three to five years ahead.

As a qualified accountant with a strong interest in new ventures Keith is well placed to advise on building for future growth.

Small Business Ideas For First Time Business Entrepreneurs

Small Business Ideas for First Time Business Entrepreneurs

Small Business Ideas for First Time Business Entrepreneurs
By Jan Smith

If you have recently become unemployed during this current financial hiatus, you may be thinking of starting your own small business and are looking around for some viable ideas. Life in the commercial world is considerably different to living life as an employee and just because you are currently unemployed is not a good reason to start your own business.

To be a successful commercial enterprise requires an entrepreneurial outlook combined with vision and a burning desire to succeed. This burning desire to succeed is balanced by reaching self-imposed goals based on profits or losses in a balance sheet. It is these profits or loss figures that will determine success or failure of your endeavours.

If your commercial endeavors are either a success or a failure, it will impact on your life far more than anyone realises. If you succeed in commercial life and make heaps of money, your life will change. If your commercial enterprise loses money, it will impact your life far more than anyone will usually tell you. Commerce is a gamble on which you can control the odds more in your favour if you are resourceful, punctilious and cautious. It is a balancing act and is not for everyone.

Franchise

Starting a commercial enterprise today can be fast-tracked by buying into a franchise. This method for a start-up small business is very popular today because it comes with a mentoring side from any good franchise offer.

The mentoring side means that the franchisor (that is, the person who owns the franchise) is supposed to work with you, often supply the necessary supplies for the enterprise and to teach you the things that you need to know.

The reality of this type of business model is often very different to what actually happens. I have worked with many small businesses over the years and the percentage of happy franchisees (that is, the people who have bought into this commercial model) is very different to what actually happens. Many franchisers don't live up to their contractual agreements.

If you are considering this type of popular business model as a start-up for an occupation it can be one that is not the one I would personally recommend.

My Recommendation

My recommendation for you if you are looking for a small business as a first time entrepreneur would be to start something very small - like a 'fish and chip' shop or a convenience store. Start something that is needed in an area that doesn't have one but has the population to use your service as a convenience.

I also recommend learning how to do your own accounting books through night-school while you study the location that you want to set-up your small business in. And talk to people about your proposed idea because it is their feedback that will guide you in assessing your idea for a popular and profitable enterprise.

The best Small business ideas can be found by looking to see what people need and then servicing that need ethically. Honesty and perseverance combined with hard work and diligence will ensure success. For more business advice please visit http://smallbusinessadvice365.com today.

Tips For The First-Time Small Business Entrepreneur

Tips For The First-Time Small Business Entrepreneur

Tips For The First-Time Small Business Entrepreneur
By Chase Crawford

Are you a first-time small business entrepreneur? You have probably already realized that it is not such an easy thing to start a business even if you have spent months or even years planning it. There will always be some things that you will miss or not expect. To help you a little bit with your endeavor, I have written here some tips and suggestions.

Unless you came from a family that has been running a business for years, your first hand experience with managing a business might be very limited. That is why any help that comes your way should be very much appreciated. This is because not even an MBA degree will be enough to ensure your success right away.

So before I ramble on and get into off topics, here are some entrepreneur tips for every beginning small business owner.

Find a hungry market and satisfy its needs or wants.

Keep in mind that often the success of a business does not lie on how unique or novel a product is but how well it solves the problems of a specific market. For example if your market is the owners of purebred dogs that have long and flowing coat, then one business that you can get into is pet grooming for this kind of dogs. The key is to find a market that has a defined need and then create a product or service that will satisfy that need. You do that and I guarantee your business will soar.

Find a mentor or a business coach.

Look for someone who has been through what you are just about to get into and have become a great success story. This way you will be guided accordingly, allowing you to commit only very small mistakes and avoid the disasters which many other unguided entrepreneurs might experience. While usually you will have to pay for the services of a business coach, it will surely be money well spent. Just think of it as an investment in part of your own business.

Learn to focus.

As much as possible be laser focused when it comes to your business. This is because it is a common fact that a typical small business entrepreneur would jump from one opportunity to another. The problem with this is that they do not get to finish a project. They are seldom able to push through a business into completion because they are distracted with the promise of success with another new opportunity. Avoid doing this if you want to really experience a successful business.

Get ready to get a loan.

Unless you are born rich or you only need very little capital to start your dream business, you might have to apply for some business loans. Just be extra careful when you are getting a loan especially if you have to provide collateral, which is a normal requirement for most loans. You do not want to get more than what you know you will be able to pay.

There you have it. These are just some of the important tips that any small business entrepreneur should know about even before he actually starts on his business. Just learn first all that you can about starting a business and get all the help that you can get just to make sure you can make it even on your first try.

6 Ways to Generate Traffic to Your New Business Opportunities

6 Ways to Generate Traffic to Your New Business Opportunities
By Jerry T Leonard

There are several things you want to focus on when first starting out on the internet. Everything from the content to the design of your site to customer service should be given attention. However, generating traffic to your new business opportunities is a must. Here are six ways you can generate traffic to your online business opportunities.

1. Article marketing
Article marketing is a great way for you to increase the amount of traffic your opportunities are receiving. With article marketing, you can display your expertise on a particular topic, apply keyword optimization, and reach your target market. After writing your articles, make sure to submit them to as many article directories as possible. It is your resource box that will get you traffic as readers click on the link you place in the resource box.

2. Forums
Forums are just about the most efficient way to generate traffic without spending a penny. There are hundreds of forums all on different niches and topics. This allows you to actually interact and socialize with people who are interested in what you have to say. It gives you the chance to show people who you really are and potentially build friendships.

3. Blogs
Much like forums, posting in blogs allows you to interact with people interested in the same things as you. Anymore, it is becoming essential you have a blog yourself to go along with your new business opportunities. This way you can communicate with prospects on a less formal stature.

4. Link exchanges
Link exchanges have faded over the years, but still remain as a great way for you to gain more backlinks. Link exchanges consist of you trading your link for someone else's link. The agreement is that you will place their link somewhere on you site in return for them placing your link on their site. The hope is people from their site will see your link and make their way to your business.

5. Paid advertising
If you are not seeing the results or are unsatisfied with the various free methods, you can pursue paid advertising for your new business opportunities. The benefit of paid advertising is you will get instant exposure. You can look at purchasing banner ads, buying a text link to place in the search engines, or simply buying ad space on other people's sites.

6. Give away free items
The last method to increase the amount of traffic your new business opportunities are receiving is to give away free items. It is amazing what you can get people to do just by giving away items. You can give away software, information products, or e-books. Just as long as it is free, people are willing to jump through hoops to receive it.

Jerry Leonard Though one may doubt the possibility of succeeding when operating an affiliate home based business opportunities, they should not draw conclusions before trying it.

New Business Opportunities Today - Providing Breakthrough

New Business Opportunities Today - Providing Breakthrough
By Simon A. Stepsys

In a computer, digital, and fast-changing technology era, breakthrough inventions, products, and services are made available to create better and new business opportunities today. In fact, businesses online click so much that selecting one or a few is a hard task already. For such a confusing decision to be made, it is important to know your own strengths and weaknesses, and take the opportunity that you believe is your specialty, and (if possible) choose one that will also improve on your weaknesses.

When looking for new business opportunities today, ask yourself on what marketplace you would want to focus on? Most businesses online fail within 4 years because of lack of education. If you want a long-term business online, make sure to increase your marketing knowledge, because it is the market which is the root cause of your business' income, anyway. Also, other than just finding your specialty, ask yourself what you are passionate about-is it traveling, writing, making videos, or helping customers on their queries? Choose a product/service, or a company whom you believe in personally so you will be motivated to work harder and keep your market satisfied.

The most popular way to make money via the web today is with affiliate marketing. The employee will not need to create his own website because affiliate training programs will set them up for you. In affiliate marketing, the seller can market the product he wishes to-and this becomes even more successful when the product is one he is personally interested in or has expertise about.

Another business opportunity online is blogging. Being able to write effectively in a way that will sell your ideas is the only way to succeed in this type of business venture. Other online opportunities are paid to post forums, Google Ad sense, proofreading, creating web content and answering calls and e-mailed for others. There are also available online opportunities that will not require that much time such as taking paid surveys and doing trial offers for giant companies.

These giant companies are appreciating the new business opportunities today even more to the point that they spend quite a huge amount of their budget on advertising online and getting your opinions about their products/services. The one essential thing for your part is an Internet access. No software installations or a huge registration fee necessary.

These new business opportunities today will surely keep people hyped and make them jump right away into just any business they will come across to. But learn to control yourself; learn to learn about these business opportunities first by researching on how the system works and the tricks of the trade, as well as asking advice from mentors.

3 Hot Spots For New Business Opportunities to Double Your Sales!

3 Hot Spots For New Business Opportunities to Double Your Sales!

By Travis Petelle

Okay, well these "new business opportunities" might not be that new, but I bet most of you haven't used them in your business. Claiming they will double your sales is a big claim as well. I've seen it happen over and over again so don't doubt it's potential. These 3 hot spots are places where you can interact and mingle with other business owners. That's right. I'm talking about setting up business to business marketing strategies to increase your business.
There really isn't anything that can match joint ventures. No matter what happens to other areas of marketing as time passes, you will always get great results when working with other business owners. Google might bump your website down to the 3rd page...there went your search engine traffic. Your direct mail campaign or radio ad might swamp this year...ROI(return on investment) down the drain. But guess what, you can always go talk to your friendly non-competing business owners and agree upon a mutual relationship to help each other out. That will never go away.
So, what are these three hot spots to find the new business opportunities? Well, let's start off with a simple one.
Your Local Phone Book
Yep. It's as easy as that to find new business opportunities for you. Make a game plan of all the possible businesses that could benefit both you and themselves by both working together. Now, get on the phone or start visiting these businesses. It's as simple as that to find new businesses to work with.
Check Your Local BNI
The BNI organization is a group designed for opening networking and referrals between small businesses in your local area. It's a great way to meet other business owners looking to build their business. These are the type of people you want to look for. It won't do you much good looking for a business owner that is striving for more.
Go to your local BNI meetings. More then likely you won't get much of an opportunity to speak about your business in the first couple meetings. You will be able to mingle though. Get business cards. Pass out information about what you provide. Just make your name be known. When you find a business that you believe there can be a mutual agreement made, let the business owner know.
Meetup.com
Aww, meetup.com. My favorite place to find local business owners. This website is just great for setting up casual get togethers with like minded business owners. I've found more new business opportunities from this website than any other option. Get on there and create a luncheon meeting. It's something simple and doesn't take much time.
I'm telling you how to double your business in the next couple months. Do what I say and you will see the results. I can guarantee it.
If you are wanting more information on what kind of new business opportunities you can use for your business, then you need to grab my guide to exploding your sales in under 90 days, Five Step Formula For Explosive Growth. It will show you a great marketing plan template to use in your business as well as much much more.
